Morning all,

i was just wondering which CMS you can recommend ?
I am about to build a site about Animal Welfare in Spain, and was thinking to use a CMS solution for that such as Joomla, PHPNuke, PHP-Fusion or something.

Iīve never really "worked" with any of them, just installed a few for friends of mine. So i wonder if you can give me some hints on which one is easiest to use, doesnīt cause much trouble when it comes to maintaining it and is easy to customize. When it comes to customization i am thinking of available modules, addins and what not.

Anything is appreciated that will help me decide which CMS to use for the site.

I would suggest
Register or Login
MemHT
, I love it! I use it on a few of my websites. I just opened one at

www.domainnamers.info
, you can have a look at that one for a demo.

Almost had me saying it would be Wordpress lol Smiley
Looks nice, never heard of it before though. Another very interesting candidate i came across is
Register or Login
Pligg

Never heard of that before either but it looks promising. Will give both of them a testrun on my local sandbox and see what they are like.

A working demo of Pligg can be found here:

Hmmm,, I have never heard of Pligg either, it does look nice though. But, it seems to be more of a social bookmarking website like Digg or something. I suppose that was their intention since the name is Pligg  Wink

I'm using MemHT on a few of my websites and I could not be happier with it! The SE spiders seem to like it too! Everytime I go to one of my sites using MemHT, there is always a spider or 2 checking it out. It's very SEO friendly which is a plus for me!

The Pligg Website says itīs a CMS, the Demo with that Voting thing sure reminds one of Digg or similar sites. I guess the truth is somewhere in the middle and depends on which way you are going to use it. I have it running on my sandbox now and am testing a few things. From what iīve seen so far usability is really good. Doesnīt take much resources, easy to install and quite a few modules out there.

As far as SEO is concerned...canīt really say something useful about that as i never cared about SEO optimizing any of my pages Smiley

All scripts are easily hacked if the script isnīt written with security in mind. I stopped counting of how many Wordpress Hacks, Joomla Hacks and phpNuke Hacks there are. What is more of a problem when someone tells you that his/her website was hacked are permission of files and folders. Not everyone is aware of how important CHMOD can be in terms of security and preventing your site from getting hacked Smiley

Probably the worst thing to do. 0777 should be only used when itīs absolutely required for some script to work

Imho WP is still far away from being a full CMS, though that might change a bit with the release of 2.7. You surely can make it look like a CMS themewise, but itīs still limited in a way when it comes to the backend where you administer stuff. There are a few plugins i know of that are supposed to make it more like a CMS in an administrative way but even then it wonīt exactly give Joomla, OOPS, Drupal, Typo, etc. a run for their lives. It was intended to be a blogging platform and it will be a blogging platform forever...
